The Online Audiovisual Catalogers/Cataloging Policy Committee Meeting will take place Friday, January 15, 2010 from 7:00-9:00 pm in the Sheraton Boston, Republic Ballroom.  The meeting agenda is now available

OLAC Seeking volunteers for new Website Steering Committee

The Executive Board agreed at the meeting yesterday, to form a new Website Steering Committee to improve linking ability and to update information on the web-pages.  We are asking for two or three volunteers to work with the current President on this.  Next year the OLAC Past-president will take over these responsibilities so that there is both access to the executive board when needed and continuity on the Committee.  I am hoping that one person will volunteer for two years and one/two people will volunteer for a one year term.  If you would like to volunteer for this o

Thanks to Scott M. Dutkiewicz the LCSH Moving Image Genre-Form Headings, list has been updated through December 16, 2009   (List 50) it is available here as a PDF document or on Classification Web.
Changes include:

  • New headings: Live action/animation films; Mood films; Entertainment news programs; Film mini-series; Interactive videos; Movie review television programs; Podcasts; Sketch comedy television programs; Sponsored films

Announcing OLAC Research Award

Just in time for the Year of Cataloging Research! OLAC (Online Audiovisual Catalogers) seeks applicants for the 2010 OLAC Research Grant.

This annual award of up to $2,000 encourages research in the field of audiovisual cataloging. The award may be used for travel expenses to an OLAC Biennial Meeting/Conference, in order to present the research results.

Update from the 2010 OLAC program committee

Based on the results of our survey, the 2010 OLAC program committee plans to offer the following breakout sessions.
The preconference will be held on Thursday, October 14, and the conference proper from Friday, October 15, to Sunday, October 17.

OLAC's Nancy B. Olson Award Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2010 award. The Nancy B. Olson Award recognizes and honors a librarian who has made significant contributions to the advancement and understanding of audiovisual cataloging. The Committee will select a recipient based on nominations received, subject to approval by the Executive Board at the ALA Midwinter Meeting.
Eligibility for nomination is as follows:

winner of Best Paper Award Journal of Map and Geography Libraries/Geoscapes

It gives the Co-Editors of the Journal of Map & Geography Libraries great pleasure to announce that the article authored by Marco Petrella, “Guillaume DeLisle’s Carte du Duche de Bourgogne: the Role of Central and Peripheral Authorities in the Construction of a Provincial Territory in France in the Early 18th Century” has won the Best Paper of the Year Award for Volume 5 (2009). This paper was the unanimous choice of the award committee, based on it meeting all aspects of the committee’s selection criteria.


OLAC is seeking nominations for the offices of OLAC Vice President/President Elect and OLAC Secretary. Anyone interested in a challenging leadership position and an opportunity to learn about the organization from the inside should submit a letter of nomination indicating the position for which he or she wishes to run. It should include a brief description of pertinent qualifications and professional activities. All OLAC personal members are eligible to serve and self-nominations are highly encouraged.
