The purpose of the Best Practices Maintenance Committee (BPMC) of the OLAC Catalogers Network is continuing maintenance of OLAC's Best Practices guides and the development and maintenance of forthcoming Official RDA resources, including policy statements.
Potential committee members should have some familiarity with Official RDA, plus experience cataloging moving image materials, streaming media, realia, and/or media devices. Experience with working with XML or DITA would be a bonus. Committee members should be current OLAC members.
There are seven members on the committee. Members serve two-year terms with possibility of reappointment to a second two-year term.
Appointments are made by the President of OLAC following consultation and review of applications by the current Executive Board. New members will be appointed at the Midwinter (January) Executive Board meeting and notified soon after by the President of OLAC. Newly-appointed associate members will receive all BPMC mailings from that point forward. The terms for new BPMC members take effect following the Annual (Summer) OLAC Executive Board and Membership Meeting.
BPMC members report directly to the Co-Chairs of BPMC and can be assigned special duties or projects by the Co-Chairs. BPMC organizes and performs its work by way of special Task Groups. BPMC Members should attend full BPMC meetings and volunteer for, or be willing to be assigned to, projects and Task Groups.
BPMC business and discussions are conducted via email and virtual meetings. Candidates for appointment to BPMC must be willing to commit time to attend these meetings.
